STATEMENT | COMECE and Katholisches Büro express concerns over EP SoHO Regulation Draft
|

|
12/07 - COMECE and the Katholisches Büro in Berlin expressed deep concerns about some formulations proposed by the ENVI Committee concerning the SoHO Regulation.
|
|
The European Parliament adopted the position, which will now be subjected to the trialogue with the European Commission and the Council of the EU.
|
COMECE stressed that does not oppose the regulation as such, but underlined some reservations. “The danger lies in the possibility that such a definition may degrade the dignity and value of human life, creating an unacceptable equivalence between embryos and foetuses and simple skin cells or blood plasma”, Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto, Secretary General of COMECE, explained.

Mariano Crociata, delivered a speech underlining that "Europe needs a political project of unity in which all countries find something of their own aspirations and the space to provide their original contribution".

04/09 - COMECE and the Chapel for Europe celebrated a holy mass in memory of Robert Schuman, one of the prominent founding fathers of the European Union, on the day of the 60th anniversary of his passing away. In 2021, Pope Francis officially recognised Robert Schuman's commitment to Christian values by declaring him venerable.

06/09 - A delegation of the Diocese of Augsburg visited the Secretariat of COMECE to learn more about our mission of dialogue with EU institutions and discuss about Europe's current challenges, especially on Ukraine, Green Deal, and youth.

Next at COMECE
COMECE will participate in an Article 17 TFEU Stakeholders meeting with EP Vice-President Karas.
|
COMECE will receive a delegation of Iglesia y Mineria in order to exchange on the social and environmental impact of mining activities in Latin American countries. COMECE will also facilitate some dialogue meetings between the delegation and representatives of the EU institutions. The delegation is headed by H.E. Mgr. Noel Antonio Londoño Buitrago, Bishop of Jericó (Colombia).

The President of COMECE, Mgr. Mariano Crociata, will participate in the event “Rencontres Méditerranéennes” taking place in Marseille, France. The event will also feature the presence of Pope Francis. More info

COMECE representatives will participate in the Bishop Tadeis Pieronek Foundation Award Ceremony, which will take place at the European Parliament. This year the award will be given to the EP President Roberta Metsola.
